Our Story

The Table...

"ElementChurch began around a table with another married couple who were seeking to not only learn the bible, but to find out if there wasn’t more to living for Jesus than just “going to church”. In our small town of nearly 4,000 people, you’ll find some of the most amazing, hardworking, goodhearted people on the earth….but you’ll also find a distrust in church, a disenchantment with Jesus, and a slight empathy for the Gospel. It was for this reason we began our journey with Converge Great Lakes to plant, what is now, ElementChurch in the Summer of 2012.

My wife [Karlee] and I went to assessment and was given the “green light” to begin to raise support immediately. By this time our kitchen table was too small to seat the now 25-30 people who had began to gather at our house weekly to learn the scripture, talk about Jesus, and discuss how we can practically apply the gospel to our lives. Things were moving fast…and we weren’t sure what God was doing.

The Provision...

Our support partners were coming in slowly, but that all changed one Thursday night at our house when -a couple we had recently met- decided to come to our Community Group; they wanted to see what God was doing in the lives of others. After everyone left, this couple lingered. They expressed that they were amazed by the group and what they saw God doing. They continued to tell us that they wanted to help ElementChurch begin…immediately. That night they wrote out a check for the remainder of our support we needed…a check with a lot of zeros!! We couldn’t believe it, we cried, we worshipped, and that night we came to the reality that God wanted ElementChurch to exist.

The Journey...

ElementChurch didn’t begin like most Converge church plants; core groups, launch teams, soft service, pre-launch, and then main Sunday service launch. We began with people in Community Groups... learning Jesus, learning the Gospel, and how to apply both to their lives and to the lives around them. We would soon have two Community Groups and felt the need to have a Sunday Gathering ONCE a month so that our people could worship, learn, and experience life together. For nearly a year we only had ONE Sunday worship gathering. Eventually, we moved to 1st and 3rd Sunday gatherings and in January of 2016 we moved to gathering every Sunday.

ElementChurch gathers in a school that we partner with every Sunday. We stress to our people the importance of learning how to live like Jesus, how to live among the Body of Christ in Community Groups, and how to actively pursue the lost in our community with the hope of Jesus! We are a multi-generational tribe, full of people with checkered pasts, messy presents, and unpredictable futures….and that’s exactly what we want. Yes, people are being saved. Yes, people are being baptized. Yes, people are being discipled. But, we’re not doing it from a programmatic posture, or with cool music, big buildings, and lights. Nope, we strive to do it from the context of relationship, because we believe NO ONE should do life alone.

Where are we now? We’ve grown to approx. 100 people in our Sunday Gatherings, baptized over 50+ believers since we began, and continue to multiply our Community Groups in order to give more people a chance to hear the Gospel, learn Jesus, and build relationships with others.

We’re moving forward. We’re taking risk. We’re reaching out. We’re infiltrating our city, for the glory of God and the good of others."

What We Believe

GOD God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God. (Genesis 1:1,26,27; 3:22, Psalm 90:2, Matthew 28:19, I Peter 1:2, II Corinthians 13:14)

MAN Man is made in the image of God. He is the supreme object of God's creation. Although God designed man to have fellowship with him, man became alienated from God through disobedience. As a result, all human beings are born with a sinful nature and choose to sin against God. Man is incapable of regaining a right relationship with God through his own efforts. (Genesis 1:27, Psalm 8:3-6, Isaiah 53:6a, Romans 3:23, Colossians 1:21, Isaiah 59:1-2)

ETERNITY Man was created to exist forever. He will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or in union with God, through forgiveness and salvation. When you die, you will either spend eternity in Heaven or Hell. Eternal separation from God happens in Hell. Eternal union with God occurs in Heaven. (John 3:16, I John 2:25; 5:11-13, Romans 6:23, Revelation 20:15)

JESUS CHRIST Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all men by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven's glory and will return again to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. (Matthew 1:22-23, Isaiah 9:6, John 1:1-5; 14:10-30, Hebrews 4:14-15, I Corinthians 15:3-4, Romans 1:3-4, Acts 1:9-11, I Timothy 6:14-15, Titus 2:13)

SALVATION Salvation is a gift from God to man. Man can never make up for his sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God's offer of forgiveness can man be saved from sin's penalty. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith. (Romans 6:23, Ephesians 2:8-9, John 14:6; 1:12, Titus 3:5, Galatians 3:26, Romans 5:1)

ETERNAL SECURITY Because God gives man eternal life through Jesus Christ, the believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives this security. (John 10:29, II Timothy 1:12, Hebrews 7:25; 10:10-14, I Peter 1:3-5)

THE HOLY SPIRIT The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every believer from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. The Christian seeks to live under His control daily. (II Corinthians 3:17, John 16:7-13; 14:16-17, Acts 1:8, I Corinthians 2:12; 3:16, Ephesians 1:13, Galatians 5:25, Ephesians 5:18)

THE BIBLE The Bible is God's Word to all men. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. (II Timothy 3:16-17, II Peter 1:20-21, II Timothy 1:13, Psalm 119:105,160, Psalm 12:6, Proverbs 30:5)
